A portrait is a collaboration

In a portrait session we collaborate to create a realistic, natural, comfortable representation of who you are at this moment in your life. It should show us your smile, a bit of your personality, the clothes and places you feel comfortable in.

The goal is to create something together that you and/or your family will love having on a wall, to look at every day for years to come.

The good news? You absolutely do not have to love having your picture taken to create a great portrait. Spoiler alert: 86.3% of people hate having their picture taken. Ok, I made that up. But it’s sort of true. For some strange reason, people don’t like standing in darkened studio, in front of a stranger who is pointing eight pounds of metal and glass at them. Crazy, isn’t it?

So that’s why I work very hard to make the whole experience relaxing, easy, and even a bit fun.

Get in Touch

Need some nitty gritty? These are the types of portraits I do:

  • Environmental portraits, which are usually of business people or artists in their “natural environment,” at their workplace or in a location that fits with their vocation or avocation.
  • Studio portraits, in which we work in the more controlled studio environment to get multiple portraits of you against various backdrops.
  • Family portraits can be either in studio or on location. Usually on location is best, as in at the family home or at some place that is of special importance to the couple or family.
  • Headshots are a more limited version of a studio portrait, are rather quick and usually focus on just one “look,” normally before a white or grey background. The intent is to create images for online profiles, printed brochures and the like.
  • Senior portraits are normally shot at a beautiful location or in town, and I work with the parent and student to get a range of images that will satisfy the whole family – from the student’s social media needs to the portrait to hang on grandma’s wall.
